"The so-called »digital turn« in photography and the unstoppable transition from the analog to the digital represent the starting point of the series »Rest in Change« by Martin Kreitl.
The series was constructed with a 3D program, staged in a digital photo studio, and photographed with a virtual camera. Traces of analog photography were artificially added to the images afterward: dust, lint and scratches on the negative, lens vignette, as well as frames.
Throughout his work, Martin Kreitl addresses the quotidian and increasingly rapid developments of new media. In the pictures, obsolete technological inventions from the past century such as kitchen appliances, a gramophone, and a jukebox can be seen floating on a neon-colored background. Within this space, the analog meets the digital, not only by way of recording analog traces in a digital environment but also through a kind of translation and adaption of analog aesthetics into the digital.
On the one hand, the title »Rest in Change« emphasizes the possibility that we are approaching the end of the analog. Yet to an even greater extent, it depicts the property of analog photography to transform and adapt in an increasingly digital society."

"Der sogenannte Digital-Turn in der Fotografie und die unaufhaltbare Wandlung von Analogen ins Digitale stellen die Ausgangspunkte der Serie »Rest in Change« von Martin Kreitl dar.
Die Serie wurde mit einem 3D-Programm konstruiert, in einem digitalen Fotostudio inszeniert und mit einer virtuellen Kamera fotografiert. Spuren der analogen Fotografie wurden nachträglich künstlich in den Bildern ergänzt: Staub, Fussel und Kratzer auf dem Negativ, eine Vignettierung des Objektivs sowie ein Rahmen.
Martin Kreitl thematisiert in seiner Arbeit den alltäglichen und immer schneller werdenden Medienwandel. Auf den Bildern sind obsolete technologische Erfindungen aus dem letzten Jahrhundert wie Küchengeräte, ein Grammophon oder eine Jukebox schwebend auf einem neonfarbenen Hintergrund zu sehen. Auf dieser Fläche findet eine Begegnung zwischen dem Analogen und dem Digitalen statt, nicht nur durch die Aufnahme von analogen Spuren in einer digitalen Umgebung, sonder auch durch eine Art Übersetzung und Adaption der analogen Ästhetik ins Digitale.
Der Titel »Rest in Change« betont einerseits das mögliche nahende Ende des Analogen, aber noch mehr die Eigenschaft der analogen Fotografie, sich in einer immer digitaler werdenden Gesellschaft zu wandeln und anzupassen.“
